Hi Peter,

well, it was a slow one today!  not many birds around and we worked for the ones we got.  That being said, we kept going for 7 hours... We started with 22 birders and 5 of us went for the duration.  Terry showed us a nice hummingbird/jewelweed hotspot in the midwood right off of Center behind the green containers.  at least 3 hummingbirds there.  We also had a tail-less Black-throated Green seen on the way in, and later later on the way out, pic attached.   Tom, can he migrate w/o tail, or does he have to stay in Brooklyn until it grows in?

Ryan, you're up for the final 2 weeks.  Wishing you better birds next week!

Hi Peter,
It was a beautiful day, with a smattering of birds around the park. The numbers were down from last week, but there were some really good species. We never made it to the lake or even out onto the peninsula, so the list is a bit shy this week. Here are some of the hightlights:

Thanks to Eleanor for spotting the Red-necked Phalarope; really a great bird for the park. We also had Olive-sided and Yellow-bellied Flycatchers, at least 5 Bay-breasted Warblers, Wilson's, Tennessee (Valerie), Worm-eating Warblers; and more.

The lifer for me was a walk that included a 7-week old. So many lifers....

Here's the list to post. See everyone next week.

Best regards,
Tom

Hi Peter,

we had a good walk today!  it was good seeing you on top of lookout.  highlights were both cuckoos, blackburnian, and a nice wilsons seen only by Dennis at Fallkill which is now muddy habitat similar to Rick's Place and should be checked more often until they turn the water back on.

Good Birding,
Bobbi

Hi Peter, et al.
Really fun trip yesterday. Nice breeze, balmy temps compared to the days before, and lots of birds.
I remember 61 species (list below, please let us know what I missed)

Highlights included Black-bellied Whistling-Duck, many Wilson's Phalaropes including one juv bird, 2 Long-billed Dowitchers, (remarkable!), Black Tern, lots of Stilt and White-rumped Sandpipers; and two flocks of Blue-winged Teal, .

John Dean gets the spotters award for the South end, finding lots of good birds.
Adelia gets the triple crown award for first sightings of the Black Tern, Long-billed Dow and Pectoral Sp.

Finally, we got back a little late, as we decided we'd better free Bob after he got severely stuck when we were leaving the North end. We thought it wouldn't look good for the BBC to leave someone behind. And the vultures were starting to circle.

I'll follow up with some pictures later today (probably...) and, as I mentioned, there's a workup of how to tell White-rumped Sandpipers from Semis on The Warbler Guide FB page. (You'll have to do some scrolling to find it as I did it a couple of years ago.)

See everyone again once the Fall Migration walks start up.

Best regards,
Tom
