Hi Peter,

Beautiful day today, and lots of good birds. The park was turned around from its state in the last two weeks: many of the good birds were in the North with fewer in the South.

Birds were still somewhat spotty, with many birds north of the vale, and not many past that prior to the South end, where there were some more flocks; so we did a lot of walking.

Highlights include a brief view of the Yellow-breasted Chat at the south end (thanks to Isabel), not including which, we had 14 species of warblers including 2 or 3 Tennessees Warblers, several Rose-breasted Grosbeak males, the Great Cormorant (they're still here...), Wood and Swainson's Thrush, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, and lots more.
Here's the list and a few photos.

Tom

Hi Peter,
Beautiful weather today...and lots of crickets singing....
For the first half of the trip this AM that's what I thought this report was going to be about....BUT....we finally reeled in a good number of species, including 14 warblers and 51 total bird sp.
The highlights were Orange-crowned, 2 Cape Mays, Black-throated Blue, many Northern Parulas, several Northern Waterthrush, and lots more.
It was a tie for most individuals between Northern Parula and Eastern Wood-pewee...
Most of the diversity was in the south end of the park...

All-in-all lots of fun. Here's the list.

Tom

Hi Peter,

we had a good sized group today and the park was fairly active, especially around the picnic tables by the lake and lookout.  The Wednesday weeding crew cleared a nice patch of Butterfly Meadow and that enticed a very cooperative Wilson's Warbler to put on a show for us.  List is below.

Best,
Bobbi

Hi Peter,
Well....beautiful day but very slow bird-wise, except for the huge number of American Redstarts (including 1 adult male only...) and a good number of Common Yellowthroat. We did uncover a few unusual species including Olive-sided Flycatcher, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, a bright Blackburnian Warbler, an early Blackpoll, several Northern Waterthrush, and a total of 10 species of warblers.

The surprise guest of the day was a Great Cormorant, west of three sisters. It was a young bird (photo attached) hanging out with some wood ducks and a young Double-crested Cormorant.

Here's the list.

Hi Peter,

Fifteen birders took part in the Tuesday walk this morning in spite of very light rain for the first half hour.  We were lucky enough to be joined by Doug Gotchfield and Jeff Gordon, President of the American Birding Association.  Jeff spotted the Wormeating Warbler on Lookout, which was probably the highlight of the day.  There were pockets of warblers on Lookout and along the southern edge of the Lake, but very few birds in between.

Thanks to Adelia Honeywood who shared her list with the rest of us.

First, very glad we had a chance to bird together during this trip!  It was great and thanks for fine-tuning the itinerary and keeping us on track.

Below is the list of birds that I remember we saw. I may have missed some birds seen by others, but it should be close, with 71 species.

Highlights: The Baird's and Pectoral Sandpipers at JamBay as some good juvenile Short-billed Dowitchers; Royal Terns at Plumb, and the Bobolinks at Chisolm Park.

Hi Peter,
Reporting in for your blog and the site:

It was a great day today. Wonderful weather and lots of birds,  with small flocks throughout the areas we visited. We were joined by a National Audubon group led by Martha Harbison, and covered primarily the Vale (very birdy early), Lookout and the Peninsula.

Below is the list. I've included birds seen by Honorary Members of our walk including Ryan (Mourning Warbler) and Gus (Northern Parula, Wilson's W) to give a full report of what we know was in the park.

We had 55 species including 16 species of warblers (or if we don't cheat....13...)
Highlights were at least 5 Blackburnian, 3 or 4 Canada, several Chestnut-sided, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher (seen by 2 or 3 members), and lots of American Redstarts.

Best regards,
Tom
