Fwd: Tuesday BBC walk recap

"There is symbolic as well as actual beauty in the migration of the birds, the ebb and flow of the tides, the folded bud ready for spring." — Rachel Carson

"Everyone likes birds. What wild creature is more accessible to our eyes and ears, as close to us and everyone in the world, as universal as a bird?"

David Attenborough

Hi Peter,

We had a great turnout on today's walk—you included!—and I don't think those who joined were disappointed. There was a good diversity and total number of warblers, especially in the oaks at the top of the Maryland Monument steps and in the oaks between the maintenance yard and 3rd Street, which tend to be good this time of year. Hard to pick the best sightings, but I know everyone who was there loved seeing a group of birds—a Black-and-white Warbler, several Black-throated Green Warblers, lots of catbirds—feeding on termites at a hatchout in those perimeter woods.

We had 69 species, including 19 of warblers: https://ebird.org/checklist/S333162950. Thanks to Angie for co-leading and all the other experienced hands who pitched in today with a large group.

Ryan
