Hi Peter,

We have a great walk today in the Park. There was a large group of birders (40??) and even more birds.

Highlights included Osprey, American Kestrel, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Brown Creeper, lots of Pine and Palm Warblers, a cooperative Louisiana Waterthrush, 8 species of Sparrows including Field and Savannah (and Towhee and Junco), and 2 Rusty Blackbirds.

Here's the list and a few photos in case we can post those on our FB site.

Hi Peter,

we had 22 people at the start of today's walk!  It was a beautiful day, you couldn't ask for nicer weather.  Unfortunately the birds were not out celebrating.  We dipped on both the Yellow-throated Warbler and the Solitary Sandpiper, but did manage to find the LOWA which was a life birds for 4 people!  We tallied a respectable 50 species,but we had to work for them.

The Sesquicentennial walk was a lot of fun. 12 birders met on an unseasonably cool April Fools day morning. The highlight was without a doubt the continuing Goshawk found again fittingly by Kathy Toomey this day. The bird gave great looks for at least ten minutes. 41 species total on the morning.

March 26th, “Prospect Park Spring Awakenings

Greetings, Peter

Beginning at Bartel-Pritchard at 8:30 am with a cohort of twelve and finishing at 1:00 pm at Vanderbilt Playground, we tallied nearly 50 species. Highlights were several Brown Creepers, the Goshawk, Pine Warblers, a Winter Wren and at least one mystery bird (a raptor) hovering high in the overcast sky.

Here's my list, Peter. We saw a few extra birds after we left the group: the second swamp sparrow on the west shore of the lake, and the Kestrel picking off a house sparrow at Park Circle!

Peter,

12 stoic birders met three timberdoodlers at Gwc on a day that was well below freezing.

Highlights were three timberdoodles, the first was up high near Hydrangia path. the second which was spotted by Orin led us to our third well hidden woodcock near the "boocock" mausoleum.

Other highlights were eastern phoebes near Sylvian and dell waterways as well as about ten fox sparrows. one fox was singing at length which gave us a nice opportunity to study its vocalizations. A pair of (mating?) Merlin also put on a nice show near crescent water.

The one bird that was absent was monk parakeet. First time in several years we have been to Gwc and didn't see or hear one.

Hey Peter,

The weather was brutal, but mainly due to the wind. Just unrelenting and vicious. When we were in wooded areas blocking the wind, it wasn't all that bad. Quite a few people canceled because of it, but we had 11 in all: five from BBC and the rest from Joe's LI crew.

We never could find snow bunting and lapland longspur, but at Point Lookout, the second leg of the trip, we saw 250+ Gannet plunge-diving and seven harlequin ducks hugging a jetty (two drake and five hen). The harlequins made it all worth it. The drakes were sunning themselves on the rocks. Also saw five red-throated loon together in the inlet there, as well as three drake long-tailed ducks.

Here's the list. Richard Payne was compiling one as well, but I think I got everything.
