October 26th Liberty State Park & Glenhurst Meadows

Trip to Liberty State Park and Glenhurst Meadows *
October 26, 2013
Participants:  Emily Goldstein, Sandy Paci, Kathy Toomey, Bob Machover (leader – sort of)
Weather:  Clear, breezy, cold in morning, warming up in the afternoon

LSP = Liberty State Park  GM = Glenhurst Meadows

1.   Canada Goose: LSP – not too many
2.   Brant:  LSP – a few more
3.   Gadwall:  LSP – about 20
4.   American Black Duck:  LSP – about 30
5.   Mallard: LSP – several
6.   Bufflehead:  LSP – 4 
7.   Double-crested Cormorant:  LSP – a dozen or so
8.   Great Blue Heron:  LSP – 1  
9.   Turkey Vulture:   LSP – 1; GM – 8
10. Sharp-shinned Hawk:  LSP – 1
11. Red-tailed Hawk:  GM – 1
12. American Kestrel:  LSP – 1
13. Killdeer:  LSP – 5 seen, lots more heard; GM – 1 heard
14. Ring-billed Gull:  LSP – common
15. Herring Gull:  LSP – not quite as many
16. Great Black-backed Gull:  LSP – I noticed only 2
17. Rock Pigeon:  LSP – I remember seeing 1....there were probably more
18. Mourning Dove:  LSP – 3 or 4; GM – at least 1
19. Belted Kingfisher:  GM – 1
20. Red-bellied Woodpecker:  GM – a few seen, lots more heard
21. Downy Woodpecker:  LSP – 1; GM – 1
22. Hairy Woodpecker:  GM – 1
23. Northern Flicker:  LSP – 2
24. Blue Jay:  LSP – 2; GM – some more
25. American Crow:  GM – one flock with maybe half a dozen
26. Black-capped Chickadee:  GM – 2 or 3
27. Tufted Titmouse:  GM – several small flocks, maybe a dozen birds in all
28. White-breasted Nuthatch:  GM – 1 heard
29. Carolina Wren:  LSP – a couple heard; GM – 1 seen, 3 or 4 more heard
30. Golden-crowned Kinglet:  LSP – 2 heard
31. Ruby-crowned Kinglet:  LSP – 2 seen; GM – 8 seen
32. Eastern Bluebird:  GM (at adjacent garden) – 3 or 4
33. Hermit Thrush:  LSP at least 6, including 4 seen together
34. American Robin:  LSP – 3
35. Gray Catbird:  LSP – 2
36. European Starling:  LSP – many
37. Yellow-rumped Warbler:  LSP – many; GM – likewise
38. Palm Warbler:  LSP – lots; GM – fewer
39. Eastern Towhee:  LSP – a couple heard
40. Savannah Sparrow:  GM – 1 (at adjacent garden)
41. Song Sparrow:  LSP – very many;  GM – not so many
42. Lincoln’s Sparrow:  LSP – 1 seen separately and less than satisfactorily by each of  us...that should be enough to count it!
43. Swamp Sparrow:  LSP – abundant;  GM – a few
44. White-throated Sparrow:  LSP – more than abundant;  GM – several flocks
45. White-crowned Sparrow:  LSP – 1 immature seen briefly by just me
46. Dark-eyed Junco:  LSP – one small flock
47. Northern Cardinal  GM – big surprise – only 1
48. Red-winged Blackbird:  LSP – one male perched and a small flock flying over
49. Common Grackle: LSP – 1
50. Boat-tailed Grackle:  LSP – 1 perched on jetty (surprised to see it at LSP)
51. Brown-headed Cowbird:  LSP – 1
52. American Goldfinch:  GM – 1 (at adjacent garden)

53. House Sparrow:  GM – 1 (also at garden)

54 Brown Creeper- LSP
55.  Field Sparrow (1 at LSP, 1 at GM)
56. Northern Mockingbird (a bunch at LSP)
