Hey everyone it was good to see you all in the park today. Congrats to Angie and Ryan on their upcoming wedding.

Some Fifteen birders a few new faces among them met at the Pergola on a perfect fall morning. Highlights were solitary sandpiper, 2 cape may warbler fall Baypol extravaganza and a sky clouded over with swifts. Well maybe about 50 swifts. I think  Time to say goodbye to warblers and hello to sparrows over the next few days.

Ok coastal loop trip tomorrow.

Best,

D

Hi Peter,

It was a beautiful day today, cool, dry and with a slight breeze. It seemed that a lot of birds had been swept out of the park last night, but there were some remaining small groups particularly in the southern end of the Park.

We ended up with 46 species. Highlights were a Sharp-shinned Hawk chasing after an American Kestrel, some very cooperative, low warblers including Cape May Warbler, Pine, Blackpoll, Magnolia and lots of Northern Parulas.

Here's the list. I'll post a couple of photos on the facebook site.

Best regards,
Tom

Peter,

A dozen or so birders met at the Pergola and birded the south side of the park. Highlights were a cooperative black Billed Cuckoo spotted by Ben Garron-Caine, a male cape may Warbler spotted by Tim Graves, 14 Warbler species and 57 species total. It was also nice running into Tom's Audubon group on wellhouse and Cyrus' noon group along the lullwater with Michele Dreger sighting. There were something like 50-60 birders and half a dozen BBC Trip leaders on walks in the park today.

Looking forward to the next cold front.

Best,

Dennis

A great start to the season. A dozen birders saw 61 species including 14 warblers on a cool sept morning. Highlights were worm eating Warbler, Blackburnian, prairie and red breasted nuthatch. A real team effort. We spent almost four hours on the south side of the lake today where we found the heaviest activity.

Best,

Dennis

Hi Peter.

Today we set 4 records during our walk.
Hottest day ever
Fewest birds ever
Shortest walk ever
People from the furthest away ever (UK and Australia)

I've attached a picture of the bird of the day.

We did manage to find a few warblers, which were difficult to see through foggy, sweated out glasses.

We did have 6 species of warblers...and Green Heron, Great Blue Heron, a distant Shoveler (winter is coming...), and an Osprey.

Here's the list

Best regards,
Tom

Hi Peter,

we had a very nice group of people today including a visitor from the UK, and our young birder John Dean joined us again. We went counter-clockwise around the lake for a change, hoping that whatever birds were waiting on the winds were doing so on the south side by water.  This also allowed us to stay in shade a majority of the time. We were well rewarded in both instances.  While we didn't see any new species for Fall Migration, we had a very active morning along the Hammerhead and Three Sisters, with good warbler activity, much of it low down, especially the Yellows.  Also 2 very vocal and active Red-breasted Nuthatches playing tag in the trees on the Hammerhead.

I'll be away next week, and i'll see if Rob can cover, else the group is all set to run itself as a Friends Walk.

best,
Bobbi
