Subject: Day List

Peter,

Below is the day list from today's walk. Despite a damp start, there were lots of good birds at Floyd Bennett. The highlight was watching a Clay-colored Sparrow bathing in a puddle that had collected in the top of a plastic 50 gallon barrel. Also, at times there seemed to be more White-crowned Sparrows than White-throated…well, almost. Note that after lunch we left Floyd Bennett Field to try our luck with Prospect Park's Purple Gallinule. The bird was extremely cooperative and everybody went home tired & happy.

Peter,

The last walk of the season was very productive. Three birders later joined by two others met on a cold and rainy morning but were warmed by good bird activity and friendship. 70 species including eye (and later toe) level Nashville, Pine and  blackpol Warbler found by Patti O'kane. Lincoln Sparrow and Purple Finch found by Bobbi Manian, Cape may Warbler and White crowned Sparrow were also observed. A bald cypress with three Cooper's hawks in juvenile and adult plumages rounded out the day. An interesting mix of mid and late fall species. A nice end to another Migration season in prospect park. I enjoy the walks more and more as time goes on It continues to be an honor and my pleasure to represent the Club and give back what was given to me by you and so many others.

Best,

D

Hi Peter

we had a good walk today with the picnic tables, the south side of the lake and the hammerhead being the most active.  Then it immediately died down from 3-sisters around thru LeFrak.  There were enough birds to keep everyone's interest and we decided to extend the walk one more week to next Tuesday.

best,
Bobbi

Peter,

20 birders met at the Pergola on an overcast day were 64 species were observed. Highlights were Purple Finch spotted by Dan Smith, Peregrine Falcon spotted by John Dean and some fun migrants including 2 flyover common loon and a siege of five migrating great blue heron. Fantastic group of birders.

Best,

Dennis

Peter,

8 birders met at Calvert Vaux Park on a perfect fall morning. We spent the morning there and then went on to Bird 6 diamonds and Marine Park. Highlights were Tennessee and Nashville Warbler, Merlin, and Savanah Sparrow. 57 species total. We had 56 of those at Calvert Vaux a sight high count for us.
