Subject: Marine Park trip report

Hi Peter,

We had some cold but beautiful weather today for our Marine Park walk. 10 enthusiastic birders made for a great group, and everyone got to enjoy some quality birds. We had 60 species total; with 11 sparrow species (see below for the full list).
Special thanks to Kathy Toomey for being our registrar, and to Karen O'Hearn and Paul Chung for driving.

The ballfields near the salt marsh were by far our most productive locale, turning up some really great finds. After Marine Park, we continued on the Floyd Bennet Field where we checked out the Berm, Cricket Field, and Community Garden.

The best bird of the day was undoubtedly an Eastern Meadowlark, found in the ballfields. This same field turned up a Vesper Sparrow.
We observed many White-Crowned Sparrows throughout the walk; all of which were juveniles.
A Clapper Rail was spotted as it ran across the trail at Marine Park, not far from the Osprey nest platform.
Also of note: we observed an escapee Black Swan at Marine Park. It made for a dramatic comparison to the Mute Swans it was associating with.

All the best,

-Sean
